So came across this lovely stool and had to rescue it. The previous owner had not given it the due care and attention it deserved and the wood was dry, the joints loose and with a dirty and dusty appearance.
First job was to dismantle it for regluing. While it was disassembled I gave all the parts a gentle wirewooling to remove all the surface grime. Then after regluing several coats of a good quality Danish Oil over several days. Finally it was treated with several coats of a slightly tinted wood wax.
Have to say that it was worth it, with the finished result still showing signs of age and use, but now sturdy, clean and with a lovely leathery finish.
