Welcome to Makermaking, where beautiful vintage and quirky design meet. If your idea of home decor is a celebration of character, creativity, and sustainable style, I hope you will appreciate my pieces.

I repurpose the vintage into quirky home decor as well as source unusual and characterful vintage pieces. Each piece has had a past, a personality, and after passing through my hands, a new purpose.

Why Repurposed Matters

Quirky Home Decor
Quirky Home Decor ~ Toy cars in a vintage film canister with mirror.

In a world of the mass-produced, there’s a growing appetite and need for the re-created.

Repurposed vintage decor isn’t just visually captivating, it’s a reflection of values. Choosing pre-loved, thoughtfully restored pieces reduces waste, supports local artisans, and brings authenticity into the spaces we inhabit.

The Quirky & Repurposed Decor

Quirky Jewellery Holder
Quirky Jewellery Holder Repurposed from Vintage Badminton Racket Press Frame

I have no idea what will inspire me next ... some vintage 16mmm film canisters in to tables, mirrors, candle holders; old card index drawers in to small tables; repurpose some vintage tennis racket press frames in to jewellery stands, mirrors, shopping list holders; and more.

It's about keeping the object's character and enhancing it with a new purpose, and in a way that I find quirky.

I sell these from my ETSY shop here.

Decorative & Vintage items

Quirky Home Decor
Quirky Sidetable with Storage
An eclectic mix of vintage items. Some gathered over the last 40 years that I have decided to part with, some inherited, and many discovered, bought, cleaned and offered for sale as they appeal to my quirky nature. Stock changes continually, but some of the mainstays are:

  • Antique French prints from the 1870's.
  • Vintage French keyrings.
  • Vintage useful household items
  • The bizarre and strange.
  • Repurposed industrial items in to new furniture.

I sell these from my ETSY shop here.

Letterpress items

Aromatherapy Storage from repurposed vintage letterpress tray
Aromatherapy Storage from repurposed vintage damaged letterpress tray
This is a by-product of one of my passions, which will be on sale here and elsewhere soon, letterpress printing and lino printing. As I build my own "stock" of letterpress resources, I come across some great items that while I can't use, I restore for resale.

I sell these both on my ETSY shop and on eBay.

Print Ball Drying Racks - Printmaking drying racks

Printmakers Drying Rack
Printmakers Drying Rack
Yet another by-product! Needing somewhere to dry my work, I looked around at the options. Really liking the print ball drying racks that I found, I did baulk at the pricing ... So having the skills and know-how to make some myself, I did.

So at much less than the price of "my competitors, I now offer these for sale. Find out more here: Print Ball Drying Racks, Printmaking drying racks

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy MakerMaking products?

All pieces are available from the MakerMaking Etsy shop. MakerMaking is an Etsy Star Seller with a 5-star rating and over 1,000 sales since 2020.

Are the pieces one-of-a-kind?

Most pieces are genuinely one-of-a-kind. Because each item starts life as a unique vintage object, a specific wood plane, a particular film canister, a single tennis racket press frame, no two finished pieces are ever exactly alike. Some designs, such as the paintbrush holders and print ball drying racks, are made in small batches but still vary depending on the vintage materials available.

Do you accept commissions or custom orders?

Yes, commissions and custom requests are welcome. If you have something specific in mind, get in touch and we can discuss what's possible.

How are items packaged and shipped?

All items are carefully and securely packaged before dispatch. MakerMaking ships from the UK via Etsy. Delivery times and costs are shown at checkout on the Etsy listing.

What does "repurposed vintage" actually mean?

It means taking a real vintage object, something with a history and a character of its own, and giving it a new, useful purpose rather than letting it end up in landfill. At MakerMaking that might mean a worn-out carpenter's wood plane becoming a paintbrush holder, a 16mm film canister becoming a side table, or a vintage tennis racket press frame becoming a wall mirror. The original object's character is kept — only its purpose changes.
